Warning: This part contains a lemon. So please, don't read on if you're not mature enough to handle it. Rated R for language and sexual situations! <><><><><> "And just where were you last night?" Midii froze, shoulders hunching, as she grimaced. Cursing her luck to the seven circles of hell. "I was out," she finally responded, deciding to adopt an attitude of arrogance. Hoping that her Aunt wouldn't harp on about it. "All night?" The response was soft, and deceptively calm, in that moment Midii knew she had made the wrong choice. She should have been apologetic, not arrogant. She sighed, gearing herself up to face the consequences of her actions. Launching feet first to her doom. "Yes. I was. Not that it's any of your business. You're not my mother." The sentences were clipped. The tone cold, uncaring. The young woman uttering the words brash in the face of Lady Une's anger. Anger, which had been brought about through fear. "Now listen here young lady, you are living under my roof, and while you are living under my roof you will follow my rules." Lady Une's tone brooked no argument, having once caused soldiers to fall over themselves in their haste to comply. The old Oz Colonel peeking out for a brief moment, reveling in the power of authority. "I am old enough to make my own decisions, thank you very much." Midii huffed, pulling herself to her full height, eyes bright with indignation. "No, I don't think you are. Just because you lived through a war, and participated in it, does not make you an adult!" "No, just the legal system! I am well over the age of majority, I am a legal adult! You have no right to tell me what to do!" From the balcony Marie watched the scene with mild interest. Appreciating the position of spectator, and not participator. "Who were you with?" Lady Une asked suddenly, switching tracks as easily as she had once switched personalities. The change in direction caught Midii off guard and she found herself uttering Duo's name in her surprise. "You were with Maxwell?" The soft, toneless reply caused Midii to back involuntarily before she straightened her spine, and lifted her head. "Yes, I was. Not that it's any of your business." "It is damn well my business. He is one of my Preventers and you are my niece. And he is a loud mouthed uncouth ruffian, with a reputation of a ladies man!" Midii was surprised that the glass chandelier hadn't shattered as Lady Une's voice rose in volume, ending in an almost shriek. She winced as the piercing sound reverberated against her eardrums, bringing tears to her eyes. "You are not my mother, nor my father!" Midii yelled, before turning on her heel, and disappearing up the stairs. Brushing past Mariemaia in her fury. "Thank GOODNESS!" Lady Une hollered in reply. <><><><><><><><> "I just got off the phone with Heero," a soft voice whispered in his ear and he batted a hand at it, pulling his pillow over his head. "Want to know what he said," the voice continued as the pillow was pulled from his arms. "Hurts," he mumbled, turning away from the light, his head pounding with the force of his hangover. "It damn well better hurt!" The woman suddenly yelled, glaring down at him, hands on her hips, fire in her eyes. "I thought you were mature, I thought you could be trusted to be responsible. But what is this I hear about you beating up Duo?" He blinked owlishly at the raging form of his sister, struggling to remember the events of the night previously. "I beat up Duo," he mumbled questioningly. "Yes you beat up Duo, and apparently you insulted the woman he was with. Lady Une's niece!" He gulped as her words sunk in. A sudden longing for the floor to open up and swallow him whole forming in his mind. "I didn't." His voice filled with incredulousness. "Yes you did." "Fuck it." He berated himself, falling back onto his bed, pulling the covers over his head. "I'll be sacked for sure." <><><><><><><><><> Lady Une was at a loss as to how she should handle her headstrong niece. Was it a cry out for attention, her irresponsible behavior? Or was it, Midii's unique way of dealing with the phantoms of her past? Would ignoring it be the best course of action, or would cracking down on the younger girl and forcing her to take responsibilities for her actions? "Mama?" "Yes dear?" Lady Une looked up at her adopted daughter with a tired smile. "Worried about Midii?" "Yes dear," she responded, shaking her head at her daughter's insight. "I don't know what to do with her. I think I see a little as to why my brother sent her here…" "I thought you took her in because of what he'd done." Lady Une sighed. Trying to think of the best way to phrase her answer. Never once questioning the thought that she should tell the ex-dictator in training the truth. "That's why I decided to take her in, but he contacted me because she's wild. Well, according to him, but I'm beginning to see his point." She sighed again, running a pale hand through her mouse brown hair. "Make her a Preventer." Marie piped up, climbing into Lady Une's lap. "Then she'll be under your supervision, and she'll have responsibility… Plus she's qualified." <><><><><><><><><> -end Nighttime Follies Arc -AN: do not come after the author… I swear I'm continuing this… |
