Rated R for language and sexual situations! <><><><><><> "Just a keystroke here, a keystroke there, and done." She snickered as she pressed the on button, waiting anxiously for the system to reboot with her little additions. While her adjustments took root she pivoted on her heel taking in the rest of the apartment, keen eyes picking up little details. She had to admit that Wufei had a very good eye for decorating. He also seemed to take pride in his heritage, though she would have guessed that just on their brief encounter. The delicately painted screens and scrolls were placed artfully about the apartment giving it a comforting yet austere look. Very scholarly, she mused. "And the library, I'd kill for it," she said with a sigh, her eyes lingering on the leather bound volumes. The crisp pages beckoning to her. She didn't dare mess with it though, she knew how she felt about her books and she had a feeling that he felt the same way about his. "Women Rule!" She laughed as the computer generated voice squawked the newly inputted welcome. Chuckling softly to herself she quickly ran a systems check, snickering as she triggered one of his voice activated programs. The old tune of "I'm a Bloke," filling the small apartment. "I wish I could see his face when he encounters that one," she said softly before shutting everything down again. Careful not to disturb anything. "Now I just need to switch a few wires around in the kitchen and I'm done for the night." She glanced at her watch, wincing as she saw how late it had become. Maybe she should leave the kitchen for another time...but he should still be stuck trying to fix his SUV, a small part of her mind argued and for a moment she was tempted to stay. "No, I need to leave now," she finally said out loud, giving the apartment one last glance before leaving the same way she had gained entry. She was glad that she had listened to reason as she saw headlights speeding in the direction of the parking garage. She was thankful for her old black 'thief' attire. Her curiosity forced her to stay in the vicinity and she waited for him to enter the building from across the way. Her ears and eyes trained on the windows straining for the slightest sound. She held her breathe in anticipation as she heard the door swing open and she ducked instinctively. Waiting with bated breath for him to flip the light switch. The scream of outrage told her he had turned on the switch and been met with the flickering of the TV. She giggled as she imagined the scene in his apartment. "Serves you right, sucker," she said before slinking into the night. <><><><><><> Trowa glanced around the bar, looking for an empty seat and sighed with irritation. Gingerly he approached his fellow Preventer, waiting for the glare that he definitely deserved. "Pull up a chair," Duo said as he nursed his beer. Trowa was taken aback at the offer and shook himself. Of course, Duo didn't hold grudges at least not over unimportant stuff like a bar brawl. "About the other night," Trowa began to be silenced by Duo's hand on his shoulder. "Forget about it," Duo said as he signaled the barman for another round. "Any preference?" He asked as the barman pointed to his beer and Duo nodded, motioning for another one when Trowa gave a noncommittal shrug. "Why are you here alone," Trowa finally asked after Duo's silence began to get on his nerves. It was unusual. "That woman seems to inspire foot-in-mouth syndrome," Duo muttered in response causing Trowa to let out a soft ah in response. "She does." Trowa waited for his friend to elaborate, shocked at the restraint Duo was displaying, the last time he could remember the other man being this silent was when Hilde had left him. An idea began to niggle at the back on his mind and he tried to ignore it and the jealousy that was beginning to boil. "Though I thought you two were getting along," he finally murmured. The monotone of his voice alerting Duo to tread carefully. "We were...dammit, this always happens. She's enough to drive a man to drink," the anger flared and Trowa squashed it down and took a moment to really look at his friend. "Well, if you hadn't stepped in I'd be in your position," he said finally. "No, you probably wouldn't have been as stupid as I was. But dammit, I was just so angry. How could she do that?" Duo muttered, knuckles white as he gripped the beer tighter. Trowa winced, waiting for the glass to crack under the force. "So I take it you found out what she was in the war then?" Duo looked up regarding the taller man through wary eyes. "You knew." It was a statement not a question and Trowa waited for the explosion. Belatedly remembering Duo's feelings on the matter. "I met her when she was first starting out in the business. I was a rebel mercenary." "So you got the short end of the stick then?" "Yes, but she saved my life. She endangered herself to save me, though at the time I wasn't very grateful nor was I grateful when I met her at the airport either." He sighed, sinking further into his seat. "Lady Une trusts her." "Yes, she does." "And we work for her now, and I'd say she was worse than a spy," Duo said softly as the memories of the fierce and demented OZ Colonel that Lady Une had been floated to the forefront of his mind. "That she was. Don't be too hard on Midii, I think what she did during the war is eating at her. She feels guilty about what she did," Trowa said, berating himself for helping his rival. "You should take that advice yourself." "I suppose." <><><><><><><><><> He held his hands over his ears as the song repeated itself increasing volume with each verse. He groaned as it repeated itself and for a moment he regretted ever challenging that woman to spar. Obviously she had taken him to mean something other than he intended. He fumbled in the darkness groping his way toward the comunit as he glanced over his shoulder in trepidation. Nimble fingers called up the dial screen and he winced as it chirped "Women rule" at him before allowing him to continue. "Yuy." "I would not normally call you begging for aid, but aside from Maxwell you are the best hacker I know." Wufei said gritting his teeth against the embarrassment of asking for aid while he waited for Heero's reply. "I take it that Ms. Une has struck the first blow, or would this be the second." Wufei nodded, fighting the urge to glance back at the dark apartment. He ignored the feminine giggling from the background as he huddled closer to the vid screen. "I would attempt to disable this myself if I wasn't worried about possible booby traps and the damage they could do to my antiques. "It's all right Wufei we'll be right over," a female voice called from behind Heero's shoulder and he let out a soft sigh of relief. "We'll even help you come up with some retaliation. I'm sure I picked up enough from Duo to have something up my sleeve." He snorted and shook his head in amazement. The small pixie of a woman whom the voice belonged to could rival Duo for the merciless pranks she could pull. In that moment he was glad that it would not be directed at him, this time at least. "That would be appreciated." He said softly before terminating the call, slumping against the wall as he waited for reinforcements to arrive. His brain already twisting the problem of retribution over in mental hands trying to devise the best possible path. He grinned, thinking of the challenge of wits that awaited him. After she had sabotaged his SUV he had not expected her to bring it to his home, nor to do such a thorough job. There were differently three complex electrical systems that had been tampered with, that he knew of... he shuddered to think of what else she had toyed with. "It has only just begun," he muttered to the apartment, head resting against the wall as he waiting patiently. <><><><><><><><> -to be continued in part twelve |
