Chapter I : Study the prey.

She took a deep breath before entering the vast corridor, straightening her blue uniform. She caught a glimpse of her reflexion in one of the windows. Perfect. If there was a standard, a way every charwoman help should look, that was it, now she had to do the job quickly and efficiently. She felt a twinge of fear, approaching the huge door of his office. of course they've planned everything, of course they had played the game numerous times, far more than she could remember... But never had they 'played' with an ex-Gundam pilot. They have often 'frequented' people with arguable moral-conducts, but when somebody explains you happily that they'd like to have the pleasure to dismember you before you die, you know more or less where you go, what are the rules of the game and who you have to deal with... But there... The various and debatable activities of those terrorists had been kept so well hidden during and even after the war, that she had to admit that, for the first time in a very long time, she absolutly didn't know what she was jumping into. Maybe he would spot her the second she would enter the room, maybe he had just become an ordinary, grim and tired businessman -which wouldn't have been so unusual at 000h13 in the morning- 'Go Shao... Let's discover what fate keeps in store for you tonight...' she thought, before pushing slowly the door.

Quatre stirred painfully, trying to settle all his attention on the endless sea of papers, reports, notes, requests and formularies encumbering his vast desk. He needed coffee, he needed it now  or he would succumb to the desperate calls the sofa had been sending him for the last few hours. He would rather have been in his bed, but, in his current state, the grey and blue cushions seemed to be the closest thing to heaven. His eyes shot open at the sound of his door creaking open. He sat up abruptly, trying to look like the serious and busy employer he 'was' (gasp). He glanced at the women. A new employee, probably, he had never seen her before. An old woman, it seemed. She began to dust meticulously every piece of furniture in the room, and when she approached the coffe machine, Quatre's heart soared. He hated to ask for something he could do himself, but tonight would be an exception.

He cleared his throat and managed, in a somewhat professional tone. "Uh... while you're at it, could you please give me a black coffee, please?"

"Sure, Master Winner... Sugar?" The old, quivering voice answered.

"Uh... Yes, sugar, Thank you very much!" He said absently, reading a boring note about his stock options.
If she hadn't been so well in control of herself, she would have burst out laughing... That was too easy for words, he had literally given her the axe to behead him. she wisely added a second sugar in the coffee, to prevent any suspect taste and laid it on his desk, leaving to finish the corridor.

....

Half an hour later, a smirk crossed her features when she watched him dash out of his office, pressing his hands against his mouth, running in the general direction of the mens room.

She reflected on all that had happened this night, while she hacked and copied efficiently, as usual, all the files she could find concerning the topic. She was almost disappointed, maybe he wasn't that good, or maybe all those years had made of her a real professional. Though she highly trusted herself and her partner, she had never really thought about being more than amateurs... Actually, she had never hoped living that long. Did it mean that they had reached another level, that now things should be taken seriously? It had seemed bold, almost impossible, at first, but now, she felt like she was doing an ordinary job... Maybe he had really become a civilian, after all. Boring.

....

Quatre burst in his office, having the feeling that he had been somewhat tricked. His first reflex was to check his computer. Nothing. No files modified. Maybe Chorba* and coffe just didn't mix, after all.

When the curtains opened to reveal the ring master, her heart began to beat faster.

"Nooooow, ladies and gentleman, and you kids, brace yourselves for the ultimate chill! Tonight, two persons are gonna play with death!!! Please welcome Cathy Bloom and Trowa Barton!!" The man bawled.

The next seconds were drowned in a blur of applause and shrieks. Then, there was an astounding silence. He was there, leaning against the bord, the same stoic face, the same breathtaking green eyes... She watched the girl raises her knife with a disagreeable feeling in the pit of her stomach. She closed her eyes as the knife flied towards him at an impressing speed, and almost jumped in the air when the blade bit deeply in the wood with an audible 'thud'. Suddenly, a hand landed softly on her shoulder, though she had heard absolutly no one approaching. "Sooooo... Is that our uni-banged, green eyed, merciful and emotionless semi-god? Not that bad... It's a pity we only get to see the chest... I definitely could have a bed session with your no-name..." A sweet voice whispered jockingly.

"Oh my god... Shao... You scared me!" Midii breathed.

"Really? I thought it was Mister-me-and-my-blades that made you feel..." The young girl purred, "...All GIDDY!" She giggled, before proceeding to tickle Midii mercilessly.

"Ah! Shao! Please!" Midii stammered between giggles.

As the act ended, Catherine caught the sound of laughters in the crowd, she turned to have a better look, since their act usually made the audience deadly silent. She smiled softly as she spotted two girls, a pale blonde with a high ponytail and another with caramel skin and a mane of cherry red curls engrossed in a heated tickling battle. Oh well... People were here to have fun, after all... If seeing Trowa flirt with her blades had such an effect on them, why not?

Shaolin laid the cookie bag on the table as soundly as humanly possible, as if to say : Now we talk.
Midii didn't miss the silent request, though she knew that the cherry-haired nutjob could, at some times, display the patience of a buddah. It was obvious that she would wait and wait, until Midii gives in. The whole issue with best friends, is that you -truly- can hide hide nothing to them, all the more when they're your business partners, since, in this case, you don't have the right to hide anything, as long as it could threaten the job.

And it did.

"Okay..." Midii sighed, taking the TV remote, and flipping lazily through the channels. "What do you wanna know, Shao-chan?"

"Will you do it?" She asked quitly, pouring herself a glass of grenadine.

Midii winced when she realized that the tone was deadly serious, which was pretty rare with Shaolin. "Of course... It doesn't matter that I know him..."

"He's Winner's best friend... Technically, he shouldn't be involved... But we both know that the 'No risk' doesn't exist. I wanna know if you will take the blow if he's involved in any way... And I wanna know it now." The tanned girl stated calmly.

"Aaaw Shaooo... You know me better than that... Did I ever let you down?" Midii said, coaxingly.

"No... But... I can create equation for explosives, for security systems...  Not for emotions..." She answered, uneasy.

"So you don't trust me? Besides, who said that there were emotions? You said he was attracting too..."

"You understood me perfectly... As well as I understood you, Midii..." She answered, piercing the blonde with a suspicious stare.

"What has gotten into you?! You never act like this!!" Midii groaned.

"I just don't wanna die because of your hormones!" Shaolin answered hastily.

"..."

"Okay... Sorry... It's just... I mean, I worry a bit..." She stammered.

"I know... I'm sorry too..." Midii replied.

After a few minutes of an uncomfortable silence, that was Shaolin who broke the wall, back to her usual self. "Ooookay!! Let's forget the sexy males for a while, Midii-girl! We better have a look to the treasure I 'borrowed' to our favorite bachelor!!" She said happily, clapping her hands.

Midii sat at one of the computers and began to print the draughts that her friend had coaxed from Quatre computer, before laying them on the floor to have a general view of the challenge. Armed with pens, the two girls kneeled amisdt the sheets of papers and started a careful study of the building.

"... See, he has the draughts, but I found no codes in his computer." Shaolin said, gesturing towards the first sheet.*

"Well, that will spice up things!" Midii giggled.

"... Sure. Did you time the ride?" She asked.

"Yes... It took me 3mn and 21s... But our motor is boosted, so I guess the cops need at the very least 4mn, and they'll be at the red light in 2mn..."

"... Where a little surprise 'made in Shao' will be waiting!" She finished with a happy smile.

"So..." Midii continued, "We assume that they will finish with their little feet, which gives us 5mn more..."

"That gives us 7mn in case we need to leave quickly, but we better count 6, so we avoid any unbid guests..."

"Now... about that beloved security system of his..." Midii purred.

Hum... That part was a bit short, but I needed to cut at the right time. Pleez R&R and tell me if it's worth going on! ^_^
