He stood on the cliff, his face turned towards the breeze, as it dried his never ending tears, a soft sad smile on his lips as he thought of her, his love. In his hand, he held her cross; the cross, which had once saved her life, and the cross, which had led him, back to her. He couldn’t believe that she was dead, not her, the strongest woman he had ever known, stronger than his sister, than Miss Relena. His mind held stubbornly onto the memory of her face, the joy in her eyes as he admitted what had always been in his heart. He would never forget her, not for as long as he lived.
“Trowa I think you should have this,” Damien said softly his cheeks stained with countless tears. He looked at the young man, whose reverie he had interrupted, he could see it in his stance; Trowa had really loved Midii, with all his soul and heart.
“What is it?”
“It’s the information she stole from the Preventers computer, I think you’ll find it interesting…”
“… Thank you…”
Sally looked back towards the guarded door a lump in her throat as the last few days’ events replayed in her mind. The bloodshed, the tears, the heartbreak. She couldn’t believe that Ice, the gentlest and saddest soul she had ever met, was dead. A beautiful and yet tormented young light extinguished in the blink of an eye before she had a chance to fully live her life. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she continued on her way into the new chapter or her life, a chapter which would help the healing of her own tormented soul. Her time as a covert operator was over, the door to that path closed.
“How is he?” Quatre asked as he stepped from the shadows, a concerned look crossing his face.
“Clinically insane, he will never leave that room again, he’s there for the duration…”
“That bad?”
“Yes, he was unstable before, Relena was the only one who could ever control him. But with her death…”
“He went out of control.”
“More than that, the man we knew disappeared… His emotional instabilities were compounded by the extra emotional stress placed on him with her death and the grief it caused. She was his anchor, without her, his mind, it was set adrift.”
“There’s no hope for him is there.”
“No there isn’t, maybe there never was. Maybe having Relena in his life was only delaying the inevitable, but we’ll never know. If you want a full analysis ask Hawke’s, she’s the psychologist in charge of his case, me I’m only his doctor.”
“Sally, don’t blame yourself, none of us saw this coming, he seemed ok, just a little more mission oriented…” Quatre paused struggling with his words as his eyes searched Sally’s soul, the sadness he found there mirrored in his own.
“I know that, but still, if…”
“Woman, don’t torment yourself,” Wufei’s voice rang down the hall as he approached, his chauvinistic demeanor, abandoned for the moment.
“But…”
“No buts. Quatre have you heard anything from Trowa?”
“No, but I think he will be returning soon, there was something he needed to do I think… He loved her,” Quatre whispered his voice dripping with emotion and longing for his soul mate, someone who was still within his reach.
“I know…” Wufei said trailing off his arm coming to rest around Sally’s waist as he looked down the hall towards Heero’s room, his prison for the rest of his life.
The screen illuminated his face, the numbers scrolling past his unseeing eyes as he searched for the information, which she had left for him, her last gift. The names, the dates, they all meant something but he couldn’t find the chain which linked them all together, what was the missing link he asked himself. His searching halted when a name caught his attention, one he felt he should know, something from his past.
The screen read, Don Bloom, wasn’t that Cathy’s family name, he asked himself as he found his fingers working frantically once more. This time, pulling the selected file to the forefront. His eyes widened when the first picture opened, the family portrait depicting the smiling Bloom’s… the father, the mother, the smiling daughter, and a little boy….
“My family,” the words escaped Trowa’s lips as a silent tear made its way unbidden down his cheek. “My family,” he repeated his mind reeling with the information, which was set out before him, he had found what he had always subconsciously been looking for. “Cathy is my sister,” he continued as he stared at the red headed little girl with the violet eyes before his gaze turned to his parents. Don Bloom and his wife, Marianna…
“I am Triton Bloom,” the words slipped from his lips as his eyes looked unseeing into the future. No more guilt for the stolen name he bore, the name would be his, no more sense of not knowing, he knew his name, his heritage. The would be no sense of being alone ever again, he still had family in the world, and Midii would always be in his heart. Her heart had been shattered by his actions, but so had his…
~ 5 years later ~
“Midii, I still miss you, but I must let go, you will always be in my heart,” he whispered to the ocean, the waves crashing below him as he looked at the twilight sky. He was here to finally say goodbye, to put things to rest as his mind ran through his memories of her, the soft smile, the sorrow in her blue grey eyes… He missed her, he always would but he needed to live his life, he had a fiancée, and a future, and someday they would meet again, and he would have his first love, his true love, by his side for all eternity, but until that day he would honor his family’s wishes… He would marry the girl they had chosen for him, and he would lead the Bloom line into the future.
“I love you,” he whispered as he turned away from the open ocean, a solitary tear resting on his cheek.
“My daughter, I know you’re gone now, to a better place, your brothers have told me all this, and I wish I had had the chance to know you, to be there for you… But things never work out how we wish, now do they? I know you loved a young man with all your heart and for years you were separated, but I am pleased that his love for you has remained in his heart all these years. I saw him here, speaking to you, the sadness in his eyes as he left your resting place, but he has someone to look after now, but he will be with you one day…” The old man paused, his blue-gray eyes clouding with tears as his thoughts traveled over the past, the present and what the future would bring.
“Dad, are you ready to go?”
“Not yet, Chris, soon, just give me some more time with your sister.” He said softly to his youngest son, a proud smile settling over his features as he turned back to his daughter. “Midii you were so much like your mother, I miss you both, but as your young man said, we will be together again for all eternity one day… I’ve always loved you and I always will, rest in peace, my dear daughter.”
She watched them speak to the ocean, their words coming from the heart as they poured out their souls to her, their emotions. It was true she would never be with any of them again in life, but there would be time in the eternal paradise for togetherness, but now it was time for them to live.
“Papa, Damien, Christof, Trowa, I love you all, come back to me one day,” her soft voice echoed over the great chasm of the cliff as her form dissolved and she appeared in her own little paradise to wait for them. The darkness, which had plagued her soul, had been lifted, her heart was no longer shattered, she was whole and would be forever young and carefree now that her trials had been completed and she had earned her rest.
