Silence reigned in the small room as they stared in astonished silence at the body, which lay broken and bleeding on the floor. Damien and Christof were already running to their sisters crumpled body, their faces contorted in agony as the reality of the situation struck them. A pool of crimson surrounded her broken body, as her lifeblood flowed from her wound. A cry of pain left Trowa’s lips as he crumpled to the floor his head in his hands as silent sobs racked his body. Duo rushed into the room his gun drawn as he looked at the shocked faces of those around him.
Midii lay there her breath coming in labored gasps, the pain devouring her body and mind. The world around her focused to a single point as her vision began to haze. She could feel her brother’s arms holding her tightly to them, holding onto her limp form and pleading for her to live, to stay with them. A distant cry of pure agony reached her ears as the world continued to slip from her grasp. She could hear their voices as they called to her, as they begged her.
"Midii… don’t die on me, please don’t die," Christof begged as he held her in his arms. Her blood stained his once pristine shirt a deep red. Her face was so pale, it carried the hint of death, which placed worry and dread in his heart. He glanced to Damien for support his heart plummeting when he saw the hopeless expression.
"What have you done?" Trowa asked his voice dripping with anguish and hate as he moved to Midii’s side, his emerald eyes boring into Heero’s Prussian ones.
"I have disposed of the threat to the peace we fought so hard to attain," Heero said his eyes cold and his voice the same nasal tone he always used.
"Trowa…"
"Yes Midii, I'm here," he said hurriedly moving to her side as tears coursed down his cheeks. He gently retrieved her limp and bleeding form from Christof's arms as he settled down on the blood stained floor. He gently brushed away a few strands of blonde hair from her face, a sad smile on his lips as he gazed down at her.
"I'm sorry," she choked out, a limp hand struggling to caress his cheek before one of his own larger, stronger hands seized it, bringing it to his lips for a chaste kiss.
"You have nothing to be sorry about, you were doing it for your family, I understand now," he whispered his voice choked with emotion as her blood continued to seep into his clothing.
"I betrayed you," she wheezed," and I lied to you…"
"Midii, I forgive you for everything I love you with all my heart," he said placing a chaste kiss on her cheek before moving away.
"Those things I said, I didn't mean them, I don't hate you," she paused coughs racking her body as she struggled to deliver her last words. "I love you, I always have," she whispered her soul at rest, and her shattered heart pieced back together as she lay dying in his arms.
"I love you too Midii, nothing will ever change that," he said softly before he leaned in to kiss her more deeply than before a tear falling on her cheek. "I will always love you…"
"I'll be waiting for you," she whispered, her soul already fading from the room as the arms of death beckoned to her. "I will always be in your heart…" her voice faded away as she disappeared, her body now lifeless in Trowa's arms.
"I will join you one day Midii, my heart will forever be yours," he said cradling her body to his chest as more tears coursed down his pain stricken face.
"You killed her," Damien spat as he glared at Heero, his heart in turmoil as his brother cried beside him. He could already feel the cold and the hate seeping into his soul, devouring it as he fervently wished to exact revenge.
"Yes, I did, a pity, I could have used her to unearth the others," Heero said his voice containing the sinister quality he had used during missions when he was younger.
"Damien, don't, Midii would not appreciate you getting yourself killed," Trowa said standing Midii in his arms, her skin already pure white. He pushed past Heero, intent on the burden in his arms. "Damien please bring the keys to Alonzo's car, and bring him as well."
"In honor of my sister, I will not exact revenge now, but I never forget when someone has harmed my family, I will get revenge," Damien said as he shoved by Heero, the unconscious Alonzo tossed over his shoulder, and Christof following in his wake.
"Trowa, do not abandon your duty," Heero called after him, a warning in his monotonous voice as he glanced after his once comrade in arms.
"My only duty is to her Heero, you should learn about true duty one day," Trowa called back, his voice dripping with pain as he turned to stare at Heero, large splotches of blood marring his clothing.
"Your duty is to the World Nation and no one else Trowa, that is the only duty there is, the duty of a soldier," Heero said his gun raised once more, this time pointed at Damien.
"I will not let you hurt her family anymore than you already have," Trowa said lunging at the former Wing Zero pilot, his fists flying as he delivered justice.
Grunts and groans could be heard from the two men pummeling each other in the ground as the others appeared in the parking lot to watch the battle between former friends. Quiet fell over the group as Trowa rose from Heero's unconscious form, slightly worse for wear. He stopped to nod at the others before folding his long form into the smaller car.
"She said she always wanted to be buried overlooking the ocean," Damien softly said to Trowa his face ashen as he held his sister's lifeless body protectively in his arms. "To be able to see the stars and the ocean…"
"She always did love the stars," Trowa whispered as he gazed intently ahead of him, his heart heavy with regret and sorrow.
“Yes she did,” Damien, said wistfully, “our mother loved the stars as well, I think that’s where she got it from…”
“Why?” Quatre asked the battered Heero a million thoughts rushing through his mind as he attempted to make sense of the scene, which had unfolded.
“She was a threat to the peace we fought for, and now Trowa is also a threat to the peace we fought for,” Heero said moving to take Midii’s bike, the helmet already in his hand.
“You have no honor Yuy, I will not allow you to pursue them,” Wufei said his voice full of disdain as he glared at the former pilot of Wing Zero.
“You’re not getting past me bud,” Duo piped up, his voice eerily serious as he moved to stop his friend from making one of the worst mistakes in his life.
“Heero, please think about what your saying,” Quatre pleaded with the emotionless man, he knew why Heero was so devoted to Peace, the others did too, but things had been taken to far now.
“I know what I’m saying, and I will destroy all threats to the Peace we fought for, all threats to the peace Relena gave her life for…” Heero said trailing off a noticeable lump forming in his throat as he thought about his deceased wife. “I promised her I would kill the people who had taken her life away, I never forget a promise.”
“Heero, she wouldn’t want you to resort to violence, it’s not the only way,” Quatre continued to plead, trying to keep Heero’s attention focused on himself as Wufei and Duo moved closer to the emotionally unstable man.
He turned as they leapt, successfully pinning him under their combined weight, handcuff’s in their hands as Heero began to struggle. In moments, he was tied and gagged, the handcuffs, of Gundanium grade strength.
“I’m sorry Heero, but we can’t let you take out revenge in your current state,” Quatre apologized as he sedated the struggling man.
“Yeah, Sally, we’re bringing Heero in…. No, Ice, she’s dead… I’m sorry… Yeah… He went nuts again… Ever since Relena’s murder, he’s been this way… Yeah Quatre sedated him… Trowa took off, with her body and two other men… We don’t know for sure if she was the Queen and we don’t know anything about anyone else’s involvement… Yeah… The spy’s we caught at the haven… They’ll do… We’re on our way in… See ya Sally,” Duo ran a hand through his ragged bangs as he hung up the phone a sad look on his face. “Wu, take it easy with Sally tonight, she’s upset about the girl,” He said in passing.
“I will Maxwell, I will,” Wufei replied his voice laden with sadness and admiration for the girl who had died that night.
Trowa stood on the edge of the cliff, Midii’s body in his arms as he whispered to her, telling her the tale of a young Prince from the stars. The tears coursing down his face went unnoticed as he waited for Damien and Christof to complete their task. They were the gravediggers.
“I wish we had a proper coffin for you, Midii, you deserve only the best of everything in life and death,” he whispered to her still and lifeless form. “I will never forget you.”
“It’s ready.”
“Alright, I’ll be right there,” he said raising his voice to be heard over the crashing of the waves and the howling wind. “The perfect night for a burial huh Midii, I’ll miss you…” He whispered into her hair before standing to place his burden in her place of rest.
They turned to face the rising sun, matching masks of pain and regret over their faces as the sun’s rays illuminated the freshly dug grave. The stood in a semi-circle as the moment was forever ingrained in their memories….
