“Christof,” Damien repeated as his eyes widened in joy, his little brother, he had found his little brother.
“Damien it is you,” Christof said, moving around the bar to enfold his long lost elder brother in a crushing embrace.
“I can’t believe after all these years of searching, we meet by chance,” Damien said pulling back slightly to ruffle his younger brothers hair.
“Is that woman, Midii…” Christof asked hopefully, his voice trailing off as he stepped from the protective and loving embrace of his brother.
“Yes… yes she is…”
“I wanted to say I’m sorry for abandoning you, I should never have left there you,” Trowa said his head hung in shame as he tried to put his feelings into words. He loved her so much it hurt, he didn’t dare want to lose her.
“It was my fault, you were in the right, don’t think you can go back and change the past. Well you can’t, you should know that. I mean what I said then that I hated you, well I still do, I still do,” she cried as tears began to pool in her blue-gray eyes.
“Listen to me please, just listen,” he begged, his usually impassive mask lying broken on the floor as his emotions paraded across his countenance. The love, the grief, the shame, the hope…
“You won’t leave me alone if I don’t will you,” she questioned, her resolve already faltering in the face of his desolation.
“I won’t, will you listen now,” he said waiting for her nod before he moved on. “When I left you there I was feeling betrayed and I acted without thinking. Midii, I have been kicking myself for the past decade wishing for a second chance…”
“You never looked for me I was right under your nose if you had cared enough to look,” Midii whispered the ice encasing her heart cracking further.
“I tried, believe me I did, but I was scared. What do you say to the girl you left alone in the world because you were angry! Tell me Midii what do you say?!?!?”
“Heero, what are you planning,” Sally asked the dangerous young man, a slight hitch in her voice when she saw the sadistic gleam in his eyes.
“I plan to rid us of this infestation,” he said slowly, his arms moving to take in the whole courtyard, the marks still there from the recent battle. “We will use their Queen to destroy them.”
“Heero, buddy, don’t you think that’s a little extreme,” Duo said eyeing his friend warily.
“Extreme… I would hardly consider it extreme when the peace we all fought for is being jeopardized,” Heero said slowly, his voice remaining the same monotone he always used.
Alonzo sat in the corner of the small bar, huddled in fear, as he watched the brothers reminisce. He was waiting for his chance to escape, a moment in time when he would be able to flee from their clutches. He knew that Damien would not be so kind as to let him leave with a verbal warning, he knew that he would face severe physical pain if he so chose to remain in their presence. He slowly pushed himself from the corner, his muscles protesting the movement as he unfolded his tall frame.
“Don’t even think about it Alonzo, I’m not done with you yet,” Damien said his fist sailing towards Alonzo’s face as the other man crumpled to the floor unconscious as a result of the impact.
“Who is he?”
“A man who our little sister used to call her friend, and a man that betrayed her,” Damien said spitting on Alonzo’s unconscious form, a snarl on his lips.
“What do you say?!?!?! WHAT DO YOU SAY?!?!?!” She repeated her eyes turning steel blue as she rounded on Trowa, her emotions playing through her shield of ice. “For starters, you could say that you are a complete jerk, an ass, an insensitive chauvinistic barbarian,” she cried vehemently, her finger jabbing into his chest with each word as she pushed him back.
“I am sorry, and I am a jack ass, I should never have left you. Christ Midii, let me explain, what I’m trying to say,” he said moving his hands to caress her arms, his eyes searching hers for any hint of hope.
“I don’t have to let you do anything, this conversation is over,” she growled pushing past him to move downstairs, to her brothers.
“Midii wait…”
“Christof…”
“Yes,” he replied, his eyes already moving to the stairs as an irate figure descended. He smiled inwardly at the resemblance to their mother. Midii looked like something from above, her short hair, tumbling in disarray.
Her eyes widened when she saw the resemblance between the two young men, and tears came to her eyes as she rushed into their arms. There were some things that could still breach the fortress of ice which surrounded her heart.
“Midii…”
“Christof… I never thought I’d find you,” she whispered, as her heart filled with genuine joy for the first time in years, all her hopes returning for the time being, and the ice melting just a little.
“Midii…” Trowa began hesitating when he saw the friendly embrace in which Midii was immersed. He stepped forward his hands outstretched before her gaze and that of her brothers halted him.
Heero stood outside the White Horse Inn his eyes darting back and forth as he surveyed his surroundings. Duo moved in the background like a shadow, darting for the back entrance, like a thief in the night. Heero took mental note to place Wufei as well, the Chinese man standing behind him, as backup in the need arose. He smirked mentally when he thought of Quatre, the innocent angel who was coordinating the operation. They would find the Queen and when they did she would tell them the names of all those involved in the spy game.
He stepped forward, the gravel crunching under his feet as he moved with purpose toward the heavy oak door. His mind replayed the plan over and over again, with each step the details become clearer and clearer. He stopped a moment to bask in the glory of the mission before he pushed the door open, taking in the scene before his eyes. The delicate young woman hidden in the midst of two strapping young men, the man from the courtyard was one of them. He saw Trowa standing there his mouth agape and his eyes full of sadness and love.
“Stop right there,” a monotone voice came from the door, a familiar and nasal voice. Midii glanced at the speaker before moving from her brothers’ embrace, her small hands inching for her revolver. She only managed to glance at Heero before a single shot rang out and there was a blur of motion before a human body fell to the floor. A soft thud echoing in the aftermath…
