Never Alone

Count Townsend slowly walked up the stone stairs of the church, towards the large wooden doors at the top. It was still early afternoon, there was a warm breeze in the air, but still the temperature wasn't very hot.
He walked to the wooden doors, and went inside. It took a minute for his eyes to adjust to the lowlight.
It was going to be a small ceremony, it seemed that most of the guests were just arriving.
Townsend walked down slowly down aisle, the sound of his footsteps echoed through the hallowed halls.
A voice called out, "Colonel Townsend."
Townsend turned slowly, and looked behind him.
Lt. Norton walked between the rows towards him.
"Glad to see you made it Colonel, almost didn't recognize you without your uniform."
Townsend nodded, he wore suit rather then his Preventer uniform. Norton had done the same.
Norton looked around the room, "Most of the guest are still arriving sir, I guess we were a bit early."

Townsend looked towards the back of the church and caught sight of the small group that had gathered. There was one guest that caught his eye, he stared for a moment at the former blonde haired Gundam pilot.
Quatre Raberba Winner.
It seemed to see him again, he had grown quite a bit since that time during the war when Townsend's unit had taken him and another Gundam pilot prisoner.
When he had taken them prisoner, Townsend had been given the order to hold the Gundam pilots until a Romafeller unit came to carry out the orders.
They were too important at the time to let Romafeller kill them. They were important, if there was going to be peace, it was going to be on the shoulders of the Gundam pilots.
Their time was over now, the battles they fought had long since ended.
Quatre had retired from the service, gotten married and had started a new life.
Townsend had always believed that it was the Gundam pilots, more then anyone else who deserved to be able to start new lives in the world of peace they had helped create.
Trowa was now doing the same thing. Starting a new life, and leaving the path of a soldier behind him.

Norton said, "Sir, I'm going to be getting back now."
Townsend nodded, "That's fine, it was good seeing you here today."
Townsend walked alone towards the front of the church, taking a seat in the third row.

Midii stood in front of the mirror, looking at the woman staring back at her.
She wore a finely made white satin wedding gown, that fit closely to her figure. She wore her hair down, letting the long strands of blonde hair flow over her shoulders.
She wore long white gloves, that covered her hands.
Midii moved her hands along her slender sides, looking at how the dress formed against her body.

This was it. This was going to be the day.

There had been so many times she thought this would never happen; during the dark days of the war.
So many nights she would lay awake, the doubt of whether Trowa would be alive, or if he was going to forgive her, haunted her dreams.
But deep in her heart, she always knew that boy with no name, she had met years ago, was alive.
This was her dream, to be with the one she loved, in a world without war.
It was the life she had always wanted. Trowa loved her, and there was nothing else she wanted more then to spend the rest of her life with him.
There had been so much pain along the way, and so many people that had fallen. Only if they could come back, to see her and Trowa, and their daughter, just to show them what they meant to her.

A familiar voice called out from the other side of the room. Sylvia Mitchell. She was Midii's maid of honor.
"Everything's ready Midii."

Midii looked away from her reflection, and looked over at Sylvia.
MIdii responded in a soft shakey voice, "Thank you."
She was still overcome by her emotions.
Sylvia smiled at her friend, "Everything's going to be fine Midii."
Midii closed her eyes, and took a breath, "It really means a lot, for all the help you've given us."
Sylvia said, "I know you and Trowa will be happy together, helping you was the least we could do."
Sylvia walked with Midii to the door, "We'd better get going."

----------

Johnnie stood at the back of the church, looking at the colored light that filtered through the stain glass windows, as he waited for Midii. He brushed some lint off the sleeve of his tuxedo coat as he waited.

Johnnie looked down the hall as he heard light foot steps coming towards him.
His eyes grew wide as he looked at his sister, as she walked though the light towards him.
Seeing her like that, how beautiful she looked.
He had no right to be here. Midii had wanted him to be here, she wanted him to be the one to walk her down the aisle.
His hands were still too stained with blood.

Johnnie said, "You look beautiful Midii."
Midii smiled, "Thank you."
They walked together towards the main aisle, Johnnie stood beside Midii. His legs felt like stone.
"Ready?"
Midii nodded, "I'm ready."

They walked slowly forward as the music played, towards the front of the church.
Johnnie could feel himself breathing heavily.
Something caught his attention in the corner of his eye. He didn't move his head, but kept his eyes focused on the direction.
Marlene, he could see her still with her brother and his wife.
Seeing her here, why did she have to be here.
Catherine was with his brothers, sitting front row, only a few feet away.
Johnnie could feel himself breathing heavily, but still he showed no change in emotion.
There was no way he was going to let his emotions get in the way. Not now.

They got to the front, Johnnie walked over to the side as Midii went towards the center of the alter. He looked back over his shoulder for a moment, towards Marlene, and towards the back of the church.

Trowa stood, looking at Midii, holding her hands, as the preacher spoke.
He stared into her eyes, he had never seen a bluer set of eyes then hers. The first time Trowa had seen those on eyes, on a young girl, years ago on those wind swept and blood stained fields.
When he had first met Midii, he was soldier, with no past, always living in the present, from day to day. At moment, his life could end, but at the time, he felt that it matter, that his life held no meaning to anyone.
Even though he had no past, from now on he would make his own future.

He would never forget what had happened on those fields, but now, none of that seemed to matter.
He had found a new family, and the one he was meant to protect.

Trowa was ready to spend the rest of his life with Midii. He loved her.
This was it, in the eyes of God, they were going to be together. They weren't going to be alone.
They would never be alone.
This was what he wanted, he couldn't his life any other way.

Trowa silently listened to vows, as the words were said, they filled the church.
Never alone, Midii would always be by his side.

"Trowa, do you take this woman, to be your wife, to have, until death do you part."

Trowa was focused on Midii's eyes, "I do."

"Midii, do you take this man, to be your husband."

Trowa listened as he heard her soft voice say, "I do."

"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride."

Trowa could feel his lips against Midii's, as he felt her body in the embrace, a tear streaked down his cheek.

------------

Lady Une stood in the back of the church, looking over the small gathering of people that were in attendance of the wedding.
There something inside of her, part of her that was buried that made her come.
There no logical way in her mind to explain it.

She didn't want to cause any pain to Midii or anyone else.
She wasn't going to make her presence known.

She looked at Midii as she stood there, to see her in person, it was never the same on the video monitors.
She was so much older, a little taller then she expected.
The way she looked, everything about her, Midii looked just her mother.

Maybe she was wrong coming here. Looking at her, she seemed so happy, no matter what she did, or what she would say, maybe Lady would only be able to bring pain to her.

She walked outside as the wedding drew to a close, walking down the stone stairs.

There were no answers, or what she should do.
She would never have her hands clean from her sins, nor she feel that she deserving of forgiveness.
She wanted to tell Midii, so many time since, just why she left, maybe that would some of the pain, to know why.
There were times like this when she still wished that Trieze was alive, for someone to be by her side.

She looked up towards the blue sky as she walked.

Definitely, not the end.

Next: In the after effects of Midii and Trowa's wedding, will Lady Une cross paths with Midii?
